Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid has expressed that the likelihood of Joe Thuney being active for the Super Bowl is “slim.” As a result, Nick Allegretti is gearing up to step in for Thuney, a three-time Super Bowl champion, just as he did in Kansas City’s triumph against Baltimore two weeks earlier.
“Four Super Bowls in five years, it’s hard to fathom. Definitely emotional last week,” Allegretti reflected on his opportunity to start in Baltimore. “It definitely doesn’t get old.”
Thuney conveyed his pride in Allegretti’s performance and expressed confidence in his ability to excel if called upon to start again this week.
“Not trying to think too much, do what I can each day,” Thuney remarked.
Thuney, aged 31, had started the first 19 games of the season, including the wild-card game against the Miami Dolphins. His injury typically necessitates a recovery period of four to six weeks, sustained during the divisional playoff win at Buffalo on Jan. 21.
