Liverpool enters Sunday’s Carabao Cup final with hopes of securing the first of potentially four trophies this season, as Chelsea seeks their first domestic title in six years. This match marks a rematch of the 2022 Carabao and FA Cup finals, both claimed by Liverpool in penalty shootouts. Additionally, the Reds currently hold a four-point lead in the Premier League and have progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League and the fifth round of the FA Cup.
As Lijnders and manager Jurgen Klopp prepare to depart Anfield this summer, Liverpool fans are eager for them to receive a triumphant send-off, given their remarkable six major honors won since Klopp’s arrival in 2015.
“Our philosophy is to bring joy and emotions to the fans,” Lijnders added. “I’m truly pleased that we can at least offer them a final to begin with.”
Chelsea’s most recent domestic trophy was the 2018 FA Cup, yet they clinched four international honors thereafter, including the Club World Cup in February 2022, just two weeks before their defeat to Liverpool in the 2022 Carabao Cup final.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino, who assumed charge at Stamford Bridge last summer, eyes his maiden English prize following previous managerial stints at Southampton and Tottenham.
“It means a lot for us, the coaching staff, to reach the final and challenge a team like Liverpool,” expressed the Argentine.
“It’s a dream for us, and we’re ready to fight. I believe the team is well-prepared and we’ll be highly competitive.”
